Here is my post from last Feburary on the other board. I thought it might help out here too.

We have been having a lot of people asking what different terms and acronyms mean. I started a list and thought everyone could add to it.

Some handy acronyms & terminology for the Alzheimer's Forum
DH = Dear Husband, Damn Husband, OK Darling Husband
DW= Dear Wife, Darling Wife
DS= Dear/Darling Son
DD= Dear/Darling Daughter
MIL= Mother In Law
FIL= Father In Law
BIL= Brother In Law
SIL= Sister IN Law
BF= Boy Friend
GF= Girl Friend
SO= Significant Other
OH= Other Half
SIB's= Brothers & Sisters
LO= Loved One
AD & ALZ= Alzheimer's Disease
UTI= Urinary Tract Infection
POA= Power of Attorney (can be medical or financial)
DPOA= Durable Power of Attorney (can be medical or financial) Durable refers to duration of when it is in effect.
****Often on this board we will refer to the POA as the person that is named on a Power of Attorney for financial matters and DPOA to be the person named as the medical Power of Attorney**** The Powers of Attorney are all different depending on the state. Everyone should contact an Elder Law Attorney in their state for correct terminology and guidance********
HIPAA Law= Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act ***These are the laws regarding release of medical information by health care providers. It ties in with the Medical Power of Attorney on releasing and discussing the health care of our LO's.
PCP= Primary Care Physician
ALF= Assisted Living Facility
SNF= Skilled Nursing Facility/Nursing Home
ER= Emergency Room
APS= Adult Protective Services
DNR= Do Not Resuscitate
LOL=Laugh Out Loud
PITA= Pain in the behind
ttt=To The Top***This is a way to move a post back to the top of the list so it can be seen.

And this is a little addition for some of the people that we are posting about

QM = Queen Mother (Vicki B's Mom)
FT = Father Time (Vicki'Bs Dad)
ON = Old Navy (Deb/Mundee's FIL)
PUs= Parent Units (Shaye's Parents)
BFM = Boy Friends Mom (Denise's LO)
SOS = Sister out of state (Karen's Sister)
POA Sis = Karen's Sister that is POA for Mom

Please add any others that you think of or need to know what they are.

Thank you so much for this Vicki! Big help. I can't tell you how long I tried to figure out BFM, but I finally did. I had more fun thinking of what it might be and they aren't printable here. Sorry Denise.
:lol:
