I never thought mom would experience this---guess I'm still a Pollyanna, or an ostrich with my head in the sand? Or, Queen of de Nile? I talk to mom every day---our conversations are one-sided, but I know she likes hearing from me even though she doesn't remember 5 minutes after I hang up,. She is in a private care home, and her caregiver is an angel. I've been out of town for nearly three weeks, and visitied mom today. Her caregiver told me she (mom) has not slept for nearly 48 hours; she is seeing things that aren't there, and talking all night long to the point where she is hoarse. During the day, she will sit down for a minute, then is up and walking. Mom is taking Aricept and Namenda.
Have any of you seen this type of behanior in your LO?
When I ask mom "Can you tell me how you are feeling?" she replies "I just feel confused".
Of course, she doesn't remember the sleepless nights or the hallucinations.

Sure could use some wisdom from you.
Thanks,
Lynne

Dear Lynne,
Oh I'm so sorry for your sweet Mom. It sounds like torture.
I don't have direct experience with what you describe, but
it sure sounds like a call to your Mom's doctor would be in
order today and a discussion about medication adjustments...
either adding something in and/or taking something out...
Others here will know more.
Good luck, sweetie.
Carol

Sorry if this is an obvious question Lynne, but has Mom been checked for a UTI as these often cause confusion and hallucinations. :(

Patricia:
No, she hasn't. I asked her caregiver, and she said she has been watching mom's urine output, and it is clear.
And yes, mom is miserable. I called the neurologist this morning, and am waiting to hear from him.
I'm wondering if it could be the Namenda---she started taking it in early August, and since then has had a few episodes of sleeplessness, and a couple of "hallucinations"---when I was there she asked me what was floating above my head. I thought she may have had vision floaters, but now I'm not so sure.
Her caregiver, who is an angel, said this has happened before, butnothing this severe.

My Dad would be awake all night and still keep going a mile a minute all day. He also hallucinated. Medications helped both symptoms in his case.
